3. Effective Covering Letters

You should include a covering letter with your CV or application form, which should be no more than one A4 page.

  • Begin by referring to the advert. Unsolicited applications state the specific work you are seeking, instead.
  • Highlight those aspects of your experience or qualifications that are most relevant to the job.
  • Say why you are attracted to the post and organisation, and name the contribution you could make.
  • Include when you would be available to start work.
  • End positively, e.g. by looking forward to hearing form them or offering to supply more information.
